Why are you training to become a Patent Attorney

Curiosity and a love of learning are what first drew me to a career in intellectual property. I was looking for an opportunity to build on my technical background while constantly discovering new ideas, technologies and industries. A career in patents offered exactly that balance.

 

What attracted you to PWF?

I was immediately attracted by the firm's personable culture and people-first approach. What stood out most was the balance between professional development and meaningful work, creating an environment where learning is encouraged and supported.

 

What’s the best thing about working in IP?

The variety! No two days are the same. Whether I'm exploring a new invention, drafting a response to an examiner, or expanding my understanding of patent law, there is always a fresh challenge to tackle. The constant opportunity to learn and problem-solve is what makes the role so rewarding.

 

For anyone considering a career in IP, my advice is simple: if you enjoy understanding how things work and piecing together the puzzle of how an innovation fits within a wider technological landscape, this could be the perfect career for you. Curiosity and analytical thinking go a long way.

 

Looking ahead, my career ambition is straightforward: to keep learning and enjoy the journey.

 

Tell us about your most interesting case

Some of the most interesting work I've been involved in has centred on artificial intelligence. In particular, I worked on a case involving large language models (LLMs) operating as a collaborative team, with each model taking on the role of a specialist in a different domain. Seeing the innovative ways AI continues to evolve is something I find particularly fascinating.

 

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received

Bringing your best, most consistent self to work starts outside of work. Prioritising sleep, maintaining a healthy diet and staying active all contribute to performing at your best professionally.

So when I'm not studying for exams, I enjoy travelling, spending time outdoors and making the most of good company. And one slightly unexpected guilty pleasure? Going to bed early. Sometimes there's nothing better than a great night's sleep!
