About George

George holds a master’s degree in physics from the University of Exeter, where he also undertook postgraduate research exploring the optoelectronic applications of graphene.

George’s career as a patent attorney began in 2017. Initially focussing on physics, electronics, and computing technologies, he worked with world-leading companies in consumer electronics, software, and semiconductor industries to secure patent protection in Europe and the UK.

George qualified as a European patent attorney and chartered patent attorney before relocating to New Zealand, where his practice shifted toward supporting start-ups, individual inventors, and SMEs across mechanical, civil and marine engineering industries. During this time, George developed a particular interest in clean tech and worked closely with innovators of renewable energy technologies. He is now a member of Page White Farrer’s ‘clean tech and Renewables’ industry group.

George has experience filing and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and has helped companies and individuals to extend their protection globally, including to the US and Asia. His expertise also includes prior art searching and advising on patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO) searching and providing infringement opinions, and wider aspects of IP strategy.

Beyond patents, George advises on protecting product appearance through registered designs. He has prepared and filed design applications and helped clients to develop global design portfolios.

George now enjoys working with a diverse range of clients across a wide range of industries, including:

•  cleantech and renewables
•  agritech
•  telecommunications
•  mechanical engineering
•  marine and aerospace
•  civil engineering and architecture
•  semiconductors
•  consumer electronics
•  software and user interfaces
