Patenting of AI-based software and devices for medtech

On 20 December 2022, European patent attorney Virginia Driver took part in a seminar hosted by the University of Cambridge Enterprise, discussing patenting of AI-based software and devices for medical technology.

The seminar covered the availability of intellectual property protection for some rapidly developing areas of medtech, including:

  • AI diagnosis;
  • AI health monitoring;
  • AI health predictions
  • drug development;
  • robot surgery; and
  • scan analysis.

Virginia spoke alongside Johan Ordish, Head of Software & AI in the Innovative Devices Division at the Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
