James Mann explains our 5 year involvement in the Earthshot Prize, supporting game-changing climate innovations.
The Earthshot Prize is a prestigious award founded by Prince William in 2020 to support innovative solutions for repairing the planet. The awards recognise solutions that tackle one of five environmental goals: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World, and Fix Our Climate. Every year, five winners are each awarded a £1 million prize to help scale up their solution.
The Earthshot Prize Ceremony 2025 will be held today, 5 November 2025, at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, and will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from 8 November 2025. One of this year’s nominees is GT Wings, who are doing phenomenal work to revolutionise the commercial shipping industry with cutting-edge wind propulsion technology. GT Wings were initially nominated for the prize by Page White Farrer patent attorney Dominic Weston, and were then formally nominated by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. More information about their nomination and exciting work in decarbonisation can be found here.
As well as being involved in the nomination process for the Earthshot Prize, Page White Farrer are also involved in the judging process. Over the last 5 years, our patent attorneys Jacob Willey and Kelda Style have conducted IP audits on nominees as part of the awards assessment. for One of these nominees was ‘Keep IT Cool’, who ultimately went on to win the prize for ‘Build a Waste-free World’.
We are proud to be involved in this impactful and forward-thinking award. We look forward to seeing who will win the awards this year.
